March 28, 2020 - The Eastern Varsity Esports team will be working alongside gaming events company, Philly Esports, to host a Super Smash Brothers Ultimate charity tournament on campus. The event will be supporting Gamers Outreach, a charity that provides mobile gaming stations to children's hospitals. CNN awarded the founder of Gamers Outreach, Zach Wigal, as one of the top 10 CNN Heroes in 2019.
Gamers Outreach is hosting a national charity event called "Gamers for Giving", which out event will be a part of. The goal is to raise $7500 to be able to provide two game stations to our local hospitals. The event will be held on Saturday, Match 28th, in the Gough Great Room. Check-in and registration begins at 9:30 am that morning, and you can pre-register for the event

Eastern University's esports team will begin competing as a coed, varsity sport this coming fall, and is actively recruiting current students and prospective students to play. Coach
Stephen Haberman had this to say:
It is my hope that the esports team will always be giving back. Our players will have an amazing opportunity to play the games they love and earn scholarships and accolades for their efforts. It is important that is never taken for granted. It is great that there are opportunities for gamers to give back through programs run by Gamers Outreach and Extra Life that simply ask gamers to play to raise money, and I'm honored we can support such causes. Philly Esports is an excellent, growing presence in the area's competitive gaming community and it only made sense for us to partner with them.Â
Philly Esports is a host of pop up video game tournaments. Each event offers opportunities for competitive gamers to play in tournaments for cash prizes and help build their personal, competitive brand.Â
