ROSEMONT, Pa. – Eastern University Men's Volleyball hit .373 in an efficient three-set win at Rosemont College. The Eagles (4-4) needed to move some pieces around, but were able to serve and pass well enough to generate a solid attack in the win.
Noah Westbrook led the Eagles with 10 kills on only 12 attacks.
How It Happened:
Rosemont (0-6) is a first-year program, but playing in a new building, the Ravens got good energy from an enthusiastic home crowd. They rode that energy to a quick 8-5 lead out of the gate in the opening game.
Trey Miller earned a sideout with a kill and
Justin Flor went back to service line. Flor's serves put the Ravens on their heels and they could not answer. The rookie setter had a pair of aces in five-point run to put the Eagles up 11-8. He finished the day with seven aces and only two errors.
The Eagles built an 18-12 lead and finished the opening set on seven points with
Foster Lobb at the service line. The Eagles hit .333 in the opening set.
Flor helped the Eagles to pull away in the second set as well. With his side up 11-7, he served six points for a 17-7 lead. Four of those points came on big jump serves that hit the floor. Appropriately, Flor finished off the second set with his seventh ace of the match for a 25-14 lead. The Eagles had ten kills and only one error in the set.
The Eagles continued to control the action in the third. A highlight came late when
Joon Jeong had a big dig to keep a point alive and
Foster Lobb was able to terminate. Eastern won the third set 25-10.
With
Darren Lopez still out with illness, Miller finished with five kills and a game-high nine digs in his first match as a six-rotation player. Lobb and
Samuel Christie each finished with seven kills. Flor had 26 assists and six digs.
Coach Syracuse Says:
"I thought we did a good job responding to their energy. Noah moved into the middle tonight and did a good job. We were working to develop timing inside. We are hoping to get healthy for the weekend."
Up Next:
The Eagles host three matches on Saturday. They will play St. Joseph's Brooklyn at noon and Lehman College at 4:00 pm. Those two teams will play a match in the middle.
