Women's Hoops Wins at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J.– Eastern University Women's Basketball led wire-to-wire and earned a an important 74-64 MAC Freedom win at FDU-Florham. Jaelyn Harris again hit five 3-pointers to lead the Eagles with 20 points in the win.

How It Happened:
The Eagles (7-7, 2-1) hit all three of their long-range attempts in the opening period to build a 19-12 lead out of the gates. Harris hit the opening 3-pointer, but Kay Wulah scored the final eight points of the quarter. Wulah finished the game with 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

Harris hit her third 3-pointer of the game to open the second period and give the Eagles a 10- point edge. Though the Eagles shot 50 percent in the second, the Devils (2-13, 0-3 MAC Freedom) took advantage of Eastern turnovers and made 8-of-13 shots (61.5 %) to close the Eastern gap to 36-32 at the half. Eastern did not shoot a first-half free throw.

The Devils kept things close to start the third, but Harris sparked an 11-to-2 run to push the Eastern lead to 11. Da'Naziah Brown hit a 3-pointer in the run.

The Devils continued to battle and were within a point at 60-59 with six minutes left. Back-to-back baskets by Viki Kneis and Wulah gave the Eagles some breathing room and the Eagles were able to close out the game.

Kneis and Brown joined Harris and Wulah in double-figures. Kneis finished with 13 points, ten rebounds and three assists. Brown had 11 points and seven rebounds.

The win puts the Eagles above .500 in the the MAC Freedom for the first time since the end of the 2016-17 season.

Coach Houston says:
"This was a] ood road win. We will take it, but we have to do a better job of taking care of the ball. Viki and Kay controlled the boards and finished around the rim. Jae shot the ball very well again tonight. We have to tighten up a few things. We are very happy to pick up a big road win."

Up Next:
The Eagles look to build on their two game winning streak when they host the Wilkes University Colonels on Friday night at 5:00 pm. That game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday was moved to avoid incoming weather. The Eagles and Colonels split the two games in the series last year.
