ALLENTOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Volleyball finished the weekend with a pair of three-set wins at the Buttermaker Invitational hosted by Muhlenberg College. The Eagles (5-5) beat the College of Mount Saint Vincent (4-4) in the opening match and finished the weekend with an efficient win over Penn State Abington (4-7)
How it Happened:
The Eagles came into today after a very long match to close the evening yesterday. They grabbed an early lead in teh opening set against the Dolphins and used seven
Caroline Shelby kills to claim a 25-21 in the first set.
Eastern put together a great passing and hitting performance in the second set. The Eagles hit .368 with 17 kills and only three errors on the way to a 25-16 win.
Ally Spillane led the way for the Eagles in the second set with seven of her 13 kills. The Eagles ground a 25-19 win in the final set to claim the match. Shelby led the way with 16 kills and ten digs. Spillane also had a double-double with 11 digs to go with her 13 kills.
Turning around quickly to play the Nittany Lions immediately after the Mount Saint Vincent match, the Eagles got off to a sluggish start. They found a way to earn a 26-24 win in the opening set. Abington hit over .400 in the first frame.
Cecilia Bauer had ten kills and 15 digs and Shelby added 13 more kills.
Morgan Kline and
Ashley Thorsted split setting duties. Thorsted had 22 assists and Kline had 20 with ten digs.
Coach Birtwistle Says:
"It was nice to get a couple wins today. We did a much better job earning side-outs in both our matches. We still need to get better on our defense after the serve. I am happy that the team was able to pull together for the wins."

With three home matches, the Eagles have a huge week next week. They will host DeSales on Wednesday in a rematch of ten of the last 11 MAC Freedom Championship games. Juniata comes to Eastern on Friday and on Saturday Eastern will host Eastern Connecticut State.
