ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Tennis picked up an 8-1 MAC Freedom win over the visiting Delaware Valley University Aggies. The Eagles swept the doubles matches and won the top five singles matches to pick up their first league win of the year.
How It Happened:
The Eagles grabbed control of the match with three quick wins in doubles.
Cole Patti and
Nick Wool needed several deuce points in their final game before emerging with an 8-0 win to set the tone for the match with a win at no. 2 doubles.
Ryan Hamilton and
Karl Finkbeiner earned an 8-2 win at the top doubles spot and
Nick Humes and
Shaun Kline won 8-1 at the third spot.
Wool and Hamilton won in relatively short order to secure the match. Wool did not drop a game at fifth singles and Hamilton won 6-4, 6-1 to clinch. Though he started much later, Humes was very efficient with a 6-0,6-0 win at the top singles spot. Patti won his first set 6-3 before falling 6-4 in the second set. He was still on the court battling in the third set when Humes finished. Patti emerged with a 6-3 win in the final set. Finkbeiner did not drop a game in his pro-set win.
Coach Spangler Says:
"It was good to see Nick [Humes] get a win. We have five guys that are all pretty close. He winds up playing at one and sometimes takes some tough results. He served well today and was aggressive with his ground strokes. Cole fought back to win the third set. I was pleased with the way we started our doubles to get off on a good foot."
Up Next:
