GARNET VALLEY, Pa.–
Andrew Behnam scattered seven hits over 8+ innings to help Eastern University Baseball to a 2-1 win at Penn State Brandywine. The senior right-hander did not strike out a hitter but only allowed a single run to pick up his first win of the year and to lift the Eagles to a third win in a row.
How It Happened:
The Eagles took the lead in the top of the first on an RBI ground ball from
Thomas Aguila. The first-year infielder hit a ground ball to third with the bases loaded.
Shane Albertson scored on the play.
From there, it was Behnam's show. The Eagles turned double-plays in the fifth and sixth innings and
Jordan Laboy threw out a would-be base stealer in the fourth.
Liam Clarke tripled to lead off the sixth. He scored on an Aguila fly ball to put the Eagles up 2-0. The Lions put two runners on with two outs inteh seventh, but Behnam got out of the jam with a ground ball to second. Behnam hit the first batter in the eighth inning, but Laboy threw out that runner to close out the inning.
Eastern put runners on second and third in the top of the ninth, but the rally ended with no runners scoring.
When Behnam walked the lead-off hitter in the ninth, he gave way to
Steve Sattanino. Sattanino allowed one hit and one run to score but picker up his second save of the year.
The Eagles had only four hits in the win.
Coach Renauro Says:
"Andrew did a great job today. He filled the zone up with both his fastball and off-speed pitches. He was very efficient and was able to go deep into the game. Pitching and fielding was the reason we stayed in the game tonight."
Up Next:
