Baseball Falls Late in Finale at King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Baseball erased a 4-0 deficit with a five-run seventh, but the Eagles were unable to hold on as the host King's College Monarchs scored twice int he bottom of the ninth for a 6-5 win. Thomas Aguila had three hits and two RBI's in the loss.

How it Happened:
King's (17-17, 12-9 MAC Freedom) scored a run in the first and three more in the fourth of starter Matt Poma.

Nelson Ocasio retired the first two hitters he faced in the fifth before running into trouble on two walks and a hit batsman. Matt Bunjo came on to get a ground-ball out to escape the bases loaded jam. Bunjo retired all three hitters he faced in the bottom of the sixth to hold the Monarchs at four runs. With the final outing of his career, the senior reliever tied Eastern's career-appearances record and dropped his season ERA down to 1.50. IN his final four outings, Bunjo allowed only one earned run and five hits over six innings of work.

After getting only four hits through the first six innings, the Eastern offense found life in the seventh.

Britton Lawrence singled to start the inning, and Micky Foytik walked to keep it going and force a pitching change. Brady DiGiacomo greeted the reliever with a single to load the bases. After a force out at home for the first out, Jordan Laboy drove in two with a single down the left-field line. Shane Albertson hit a ball to the same spot to plate a run and put two in scoring position for Aguila. The rookie infielder delivered a single up the middle to drive in both Albertson and Laboy.

Lawrence came on to pitch a pair of scoreless innings in his first career outing on the mound The Eagles put two on with one out in the top of the ninth but were unable to tack on an extra run. Kyle Daddario's single to start the ninth was the 97th and final hit of his Eastern career. It came in typical fashion. After fouling off a 2-2 pitch to stay alive, Daddario hit a single to the big part of the field. After starting the year slowly, Daddario had 15 hits over his final 12 games.

The Monarchs, who will be the fourth seed in this year's MAC Freedom Tournament, claimed the season series with a pair of runs on two hits off Steve Sattanino in the ninth. The final run scored on a bases-loaded walk after an intentional pass.

Up Next:
The Eagles (14-24, 7-14) are slated to return the vast majority of their line-up and pitching for next year. The game was the final game for Bunjo, Daddario, Laboy, and fellow seniors Andrew Behnam, Ian Roth and Justin Fredericks.
