ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Though missing a key piece int he line-up, Eastern University Men's Tennis earned a 6-3 win over the visiting Misericordia University Cougars in MAC Freedom tennis.
Nick Wool was 10-2 on the year, but was forced to sit with injury. His departure forced
Nick Humes and
Cole Patti to form a new doubles team and put extra pressure on the top of the order.
The top of the order came through.
Ryan Hamilton and
Karl Finkbeiner did not a drop a game in winning the top doubles spot, and Patti and Humes figured things out on the fly to claim an 8-3 win at second doubles. The Eagles dropped third doubles but took a one-point edge to singles play.
Humes and Finkbeiner claimed decisive wins in very short matches to put the Eagles within a point of winning the match. Finkbeiner did not drop a game at fourth singles,a nd Humes won 6-0, 6-1. Hamilton and Patti had the responsibility of closing out the match. Hamilton won 6-1, 6-1 to give Eastern the decisive fifth. Patti needed a first set tiebreak to win 7-6, 6-1.
The Eagles (7-7, 2-4) will host the Manhattanville College Valiants on Saturday to close the season.
