Softball Drops Two at Widener

CHESTER, Pa. – Eastern University Softball continued on the road with a pair of non-league games at Widener University. The Eagles were unable to slow the host Pride (16-8) in dropping both ends of the doubleheader. Widener won the first game, 9-2, and an the second game 11-3.

How It Happened:
The Pride put together a four-run inning without a big hit in the bottom of the first. They scored four times on two hits an an error. The damage could have been worse, but Lexi Evelyn escaped the jam with a strikeout and a ground ball out to end the inning.

Sabrina Thomas doubled to start the second. Evelyn knocked her in with a single, but the Eagles were unable to tack on another run. Widener built a 5-1 lead on a squeeze bunt in the second.

Eastern pulled that run back on a bunt single from Leah Lozzi in the fourth, but the Pride put up four in the bottom of the fourth for the final margin. A three-run home run was the big blow in the inning.

Eastern took the lead with a single run to open game two. Sam Albertson led off with a single and moved to third after a sacrifice bunt and a single from Emily Loomis. She scored on a wild pitch.

Sami Britton worked around a two-out walk in the first to hold the lead. The Eagles put two on in the second inning but could not build on the lead. The Pride tied the game with a single run in the bottom of the second and took the lead with one more in the third. Widener broke the game open with a five-run fourth. The Eagles scored twice in the top of the fifth. Rebecca Howard delivered an RBI double in the inning, but Widener ended the game with four two-out runs in the bottom of the fifth.
