EDWARDSVILLE, Pa.– A short-handed Eastern University women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the defending MAC Freedom champion Wilkes University Colonels.
How It Happened:
The Eagles (5-7, 1-4 MAC) went north without
Lauren Good available for action. Good, who is 8-3 at second singles this year, also typically plays first doubles with
Emma Paugh. The usually tough task of taking on the defending champions became more daunting with mixed-up doubles teams and everyone playing up a spot in the order.
The Eagles won just one game in doubles.
In singles play,
Emma Paugh pushed her opponent throughout a tough match. Paugh came out on the short end of a 6-3, 7-5 decision, but forced several games into deuce and made the match a challenge.
Allison Ryan, playing up at fourth singles won three games in her match.
Coach Spangler says:
"I felt we competed throughout the match. Emma played well but just could not win enough of the big points to win the second set."
Up Next:
The Eagles wrap up the season with two home matches next week. They will host Misericordia on Tuesday and Manhattanville on Saturday.
