St. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse (4-6) finished the non-league portion of the schedule with a 19-6 home loss to the No. 10 Dickinson College Red Devils (8-2).
Zach Bauer and
Anthony Firmani combined to win 17-of-28 face-offs in the game.
How It Happened:
Coming into the game, the Eastern staff knew that the Eagles would have to keep the game low-scoring and the pace deliberate to have a chance to stay with Dickinson. The Red Devils, however, were able to dictate the pace of play in the first and scored on seven of their first eight shots on goal to build a 7-2 lead after fifteen minutes.
Anotnio Yeoman scored Eastern's first goal on a long-range effort, and
Colin Piper scored the other goal in transition off a feed from
Jimmy Kurnik.
While the pace slowed in the second quarter, the damage had been done.
Trent Ashton scored from
Ethan Joseph to close the half, but the Red Devils led 10-3 at the break.
Kyle Fanelli had the Eagles lone highlight of the third quarter. The junior midfielder picked up a loose ball at the edge of the crease and fired a blind shot into the top corner for his first goal of the year. Dickinson stretched the lead further with five goals in the period.
The Eagles scored twice in the fourth, but there would not be a miracle comeback against the strong and aggressive Dickinson defense.
Coach Wallace says:
"They are big strong and fast all over the field and they play a system that plays to their strengths. They are super-aggressive on defense and we were not able to move the ball well enough to exploit their early slides. Offensively, they were able to get their shooters in spots where they could pick corners."
"Playing games like this test you. It's not easy. What we hope is that we will be prepared for what is in front of us because we have seen these ranked teams."
