PURCHASE, N.Y.– With their home field under construction, the road-weary Eastern University Softball team took to the road again for a MAC Freedom doubleheader against Manhattanville. Though the Eagles were the home side on the scoreboard, the #12 Valiants (14-0, 4-0 MAC Freedom) did very little to make the Eagles feel at home in a pair of lopsided losses.
Manhattanville opened the day with ta 12-0 five-inning win in the opener. The Valiants plated two runs in the top of the first and and grabbed four runs on three hits in the second. The veteran Valiant group added six in the third before
Lexi Evelyn was able to slow down the attack against a series of Manhattanville pinch-hitters. The Eagles, meanwhile, picked up only two hits in the opener.
The second game started worse for the Eagles. The Valiant hitters launched eight extra-base hits in the first three innings on the way to a 23-1 win. The Eagles scored their only run of the day on a two-out double from
Rebecca Howard in the bottom of the fifth.
The Eagles (3-13, 0-4 MAC Freedom) will play at Misericordia on Saturday.
