WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Volleyball earned a 25-12 win in the third set to extend the match, but the the Eagles were unable to sustain that momentum in a four-set MAC loss at Wilkes.
Darren Lopez lead the Eagles with 11 kills.
How It Happened:
The Colonels put together big runs on serve early in each of the first two sets. The Eagles were put behind early in serve receive and spent most of the first two sets in a defensive posture.
Wilkes (8-7, 3-3 MAC) built a 21-9 lead in the opening set. The Eagles ground back with aggressive serves and solid passing to close the gap to 24-18, but the deficit proved to be too big, and the Colonels earned a side-out to win the opener 25-18.
The Colonels jumped to a 9-4 edge in the second set. The Eagles closed the gap to 11-8, but the Colonels grabbed four points in a row to build a comfortable lead on the way to a 25-14 win.
The Eagles put things together in the third set and took advantage of several Wilkes' errors to run off eight points in a row with
Nicholas Hulbert at the service line. The Eagles led 15-7 and took the third set 15-12.
Early troubles returned for the Eagles in the fourth set. Wilkes led 5-1 and built that edge into a ten-point lead at 19-9. The Eagles only scored one point on serve in dropping the final set 25-13.
The Eagles hit a negative number for the match against a Wilkes defense that finished with 10 blocks and 25 digs.
Cameron Parsons had 20 assists and five digs.
Coach Syracuse Says:
"It was another tough night passing and serving. They were able to put us under pressure with the serve and it turned into a tough day at the office. We will want to get better on the block and in passing as we prepare for matches after Spring Break."

The Eagles (5-5, 1-5 MAC) have a break for the School's mid-semester break. They will host Alvernia on March 12.
