ONEONTA, N.Y.– Eastern University Women's Volleyball opened action at the Oneonta Dig Pink Invitational with a convincing three-set win over the Baruch College Bearcats. (18-8).
Caroline Shelby and
Cecilia Bauer both recorded double-doubles and
Katie Stenby added 21 digs in the win.
How It Happened:
After a long bus ride, the Eagles (18-11) the Eagles found their legs early. They hit .356 with 18 kills in a 25-9 win to open the match The Eastern attack slowed a little in the second set. They still pounded out 19 kills, but hit only .197 in the 25-21 win. The Eagles scored more points on Bearcat errors on the way to a 25-16 to close out the match.
Shelby had a match-high 14 kills with 10 digs. Bauer added 13 kills and 11 digs.. She added two aces and a block. Stenby served a team-high 16 times and recorded her sixth match this season with more than 20 digs. Three of those have come in the last week.
Ally Spillane finished with nine kills and
Ally Montour had four kills and two blocks.
Morgan Kline delivered 26 assists.
Coach Birtwistle Says:
"This was a good win after a long bus ride. The girls were focused and ready to go at the first whistle. With focus on defense, we did a nice job. We passed well and Katie had another 20+ dig night."
Up Next:
The Eagles play the host Dragons at noon before wrapping up the regular season wiht a 2 pm match against Hartwick. Eastern begins MAC Freedom Tournament play at home against DeSales next Wednesday.
