ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer scored once in each half and held the visiting Goucher College Gophers without a shot on goal for the first 86 minutes of the match to win a second straight game.
Amanda Kelly and
Amy Radcliffe scored for Eastern (2-2).
How it Happened
Thirty-seven minutes into a fairly quiet first half, Eastern earned a corner kick when
Katie Gunning worked toward goal on the right side.
Zoe Galvin curled a an outswinging corner to the edge of the six yard box. Kelly found space to jump and buried the header for her first goal of the season. Galvin and Kelly are both juniors who roomed together for their first two years at Eastern. This year, however is the first time the two have been on the field at the same time. Kelly missed her first year with injury and Galvin missed her sophomore season. Kelly's only other goal came at Goucher last season.
In the 55th minute,
Adrianna Rowlands punted a ball toward midfield where
Nicole Weenink skimmed toward teh Goucher goal.
Amy Radcliffe beat her mark to the ball and chopped the ball back to her right foot. The junior forward bent to the far post for her second goal in the last two games.
Carli Sitkowski and
Lydia Moody kept the Gophers away from the Eastern goal for most of the game. Goucher's first attempt on goal came in the 86th minute, but Rowlands had her toughest test of the match a minute later. Eastern's senior keeper went to the ground for a pair of stops to preserve her sixth career shutout.
Coach West Says:
"I thought we controlled the flow of the game, limited their chances, and were able to be dangerous."
"It is great to get a game-winner with many of our reserves int he match. Amanda has been playing well. She has earned that score."
"Zoe and Emily [Weaver] switched the point of attack, and we had a very disciplined performance from our back line. We have a couple days before we play Haverford. We are excited about the challenge they will pose. Our young team grew as a unit and played well today."
