Men's Soccer Edged in Overtime

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Soccer dropped a tough 2-1 overtime decision to the visiting William Paterson University Pioneers (2-0-1). The visitors converted a penalty kick in the 94th minute to hand the Eagles their first loss at home since Oct. 1, 2016.

Moments That Mattered:
The Pioneers took the lead in the 32nd minute on a strong header from Keysean Brant-Sharp off a corner kick. It was the first time the Eagles trailed this year.

Sam Sutherland leveled the score after stealing a ball 25 yards from goal. The sophomore midfielder kept his momentum going to goal and converted the breakaway chance for his first tally of the year.

Ben Lochstampfor made two big saves in the 44th minute to keep the game tied going to halftime. He made five total saves in the game.

Dennis Cosgrove helped the Eagles to reach overtime. The senior headed a ball off the goal line in the 74th minute on a headed shot from William Paterson's Kyle Adams.

The Eagles had a chance in overtime, but Cade Harmon's shot from 22 yards out went wide. Seconds later, the Pioneers slipped a ball behind the Eastern back row. Lochstamphor came off his line for the ball but missed and caught the forward for the decisive penalty kick.

Coach Payne says:
"We were ok today, but this was far from our best. We fouled way too much and lost our focus at time by getting too concerned with the officials. We needed to put more shots on goal."

"I thought we still had a chance to win the match even though we didn't impose ourselves on the match. We could have had way more control of the game."

"We have to regroup very quickly as we have a tough match tomorrow against Wesleyan. I expect a battle tomorrow."

Up next:
Eastern will play Weselyan University at Bryn Mawr College. The match was originally to be played at Haverford College, but heavy rain has forced the game onto turf at Bryn Mawr. There will not be a live stream of the game. Wesleyan fell in overtime to Haverford today.
