ABINGTON, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer scored four times in the second half to earn a 4-0 win at Penn State Abington. In a replay after yesterday's match was flooded out after only twelve minutes,
Zoe Galvin, who had a goal wiped out by the rains yesterday, scored twice to lead the late barrage.
How it Happened:
Eastern (4-5) had almost all the play in the first half, but the Eagles could not convert any of their five shots or four corners into goals. The host Lions (2-4-2) did not pick up a shot until the 49th minute.
Shortly after, Galvin did her work. The junior midfielder beat several defenders on the dribble and drove home her first counting goal of the year.
Despite consistent pressure on the Abington goal, the game remained a one-goal match for the next nearly half hour.
Nicole Weenink knocked in her fourth of the year to double the Eastern lead. The junior forward earned the edge and flipped a cross to
Amy Radcliffe in front of the goal. Radcliffe collected the ball, but was unable to release a shot and pushed it back to Weenink for the 2-0 lead.
Galvin completed her brace ona shot from distance in the 88th minute and first year midfielder
Casey Avello closed out the scoring with her first career goal in the 89th.
Coach West Says:
"We played well today. We stayed patient, valued the ball, and limited their chances by keeping the ball. It was great to get a shutout and get contributions from all our healthy field players.
"Casey's first career goal is a highlight for the whole team. Even though we controlled the game, we still need to play faster. I was pleased with our effort and our ability to control the flow and pace."
