Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Slow Start Costs Women's Soccer Against Oneonta

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Playing a second game in 24 hours, Eastern University Women's Soccer started slowly and was unable to recover in a 3-0 loss to the visiting Oneonta Red Dragons in a non-league match-up on Olson Field. After falling yesterday at Lebanon Valley, the Eagles (0-2) faced another tough test from Oneonta(1-1). The visitors scored in the third minute and twice more in the opening twenty minutes to grab control of the game.

Eastern showed life in the attack in the second half, but the Eagles were unable to find the back of the net despite holding an 7-5 edge in shots after the break.

How it Happened:
After Eastern had a good chance early on a Nicole Weenink steal and cross, Oneonta took advantage of a change of possession near midfield. A quick ball over the top put Christina Kornfeld behind the Eastern back row. Kornfeld placed a solid shot to the lower left corner for a 1-0 lead.

The second goal came off a cross from in tight. Oneonta's Hannah Kaplan was at the back post to push a ball off the post and in for a 2-0 lead. Five minutes later, the Red Dragons made it 3-0 on a restart goal from the right side.

Eastern gave up ten shots in the first half, but the Eagles found more chances in the second half and had a 7-to-5 edge in shots after the break. Weenink had several dangerous opportunities, but the Eagles were unable to cut into the lead.

Coach West Says:
"There were a lot of things in the second half that looked better. We were more dangerous going forward and we did a good job limiting their chances. I also think we saw several players show very well in spots, which could give us a lot of flexibility going forward. Lydia Moody did really well in the middle of the back row, and I thought Alyssa Simpkins did a great job as a 1 v. 1 defender."

"I was pleased with our effort after getting down. We kept battling throughout. Amanda Kelly and Camryn McWilliams did a really nice job off the bench in the midfield."
