ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Olivia Weaver won a pair of matches, but it was not quite enough as the visiting DeSales University Bulldogs escaped with a 5-4 win in the MAC Freedom opener for both teams. Both teams won three singles matches, but the Bulldogs won at both first and third doubles to grab the early edge.

Shannon Jugler and Weaver combined for an 8-5 win at second doubles. Weaver then ground out a win in a super-tiebreaker at third singles. After winning the opening set 7-5, she dropped the second set 6-1. She won 10-6 in the super-tiebreaker.

Lauren Good dominated with a 6-1, 6-3 win at second singles and Emily Thomas earned a 6-2, 6-4 win in the final singles spot, but the Bulldogs won at first, fourth and fifth singles to secure the important league win.

"The wind was a little tricky for all the players today," Head Coach Mark Spangler said after the match. "Lauren beat a very good player very decisively. She controlled the match from the baseline and dictate points throughout. It was her best match of the year. Shannon and Olivia served well and played the big points well in the doubles match. This was pretty evenly matched contest. We had a couple matches that could have gone our way that did not."

Eastern will play at King's tomorrow.
