Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls to King's on Senior Day

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Lacrosse built an early 5-2 lead, but the visiting King's College Monarchs outscored the Eagles 7-1 over the final 16 minutes of the first half and held on for an 18-12 win in a game with post-season ramifications for both teams. The Eagles honored their six seniors prior to the game.

King's came into the game needing to win by at least four goals to secure a spot in the upcoming MAC Freedom Tournament. Eastern would have been the third seed with a win or a loss by three or fewer goals. The Eagles, however, rode the momentum of senior day to an early lead. After the squads traded goals over the first five and a half minutes, the Eagles scored three in a row in less than three minutes. Liz Brennan scored in between a pair of Julie Haggan tallies.

King's answered with three goals in a three minute stretch to tie the game with 13:08 on the clock. The scoring slowed for a bit before the Monarchs opened up the game with three goals in 33 seconds around the 23 minute mark of the half. While the Monarchs only held a 9-7 edge in first half draw controls, they were able to convert their wins into offense early.  The lead grew to 9-5 before Meghan Kosmides converted a free position shot to close the gap heading into halftime.

The Eagles closed the gap to 9-7 on a Liz Brennan tally early in the second half, but could not get any closer. Haggan led the Eagles with five goals and an assist. Liz Brennan had three goals. With four caused turnovers and five ground balls, Sam Brennan moved over 100 ground balls in her career and became the single-season leader in caused turnovers with 57.

The team honored the two Brennans, Haggan, Alex Imperatore, Jazzlyn Sullivan, adn Alex Vincent before the game. The Eagles will play at FDU-Florham on Wednesday. Game time will be announced tomorrow.
