Men's Lacrosse Rallies Past King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – Easten University Men's Lacrosse trailed early, but put together a run of eight-straight goals to open up the game on the way to an 11-6 MAC Freedom win at King's College. The Eagles (10-6, 7-0) had locked up the top seed in the MAC Freedom Tournament prior to action today, but completed an unbeaten run through the league regular season with the win. The Monarchs (6-8, 3-4) dropped into a four-way tie for third place and claimed the third seed on tiebreakers.

"They were a hungry team," Head Coach Kevin Wallace said of the Monarchs. " They had a lot on the line and they came out very well. They did an outstanding job controlling the tempo of the game early."

King's led 3-0 eleven minutes into the game, but the Eagles grabbed one back off the faceoff following the third King's goal. Eastern's first shot was saved, but Trent Ashton forced a turnover in the ride and found Mark Buannic for the finish. Hassan Mackey converted on the first Eastern possession of the second quarter to trim the deficit to 3-2. The two teams each scored one more goal in the half and the Monarchs held a 4-3 edge at the break.

The Eagles scored the only two goals of the third quarter to take teh lead and the first five goals of the the fourth to build it to 10-4. The Eagles won 8-of-12 second-half faceoffs to pull away. Zach Bauer went 12-of-19 (63 %) and actually saw his in league faceoff percentage drop. The sophomore has won 75.2 percent of his faceoffs in MAC Freedom play.

Ashton finished with three goals and four assists to pace the Eastern attack. Buannic had two goals and Trevor Gallion, Mackey, Matt Auletti, Sam Emig, Kyle Fanelli and Sean Fechter each scored single goals.

Jameal Hadeed made nine stops in goal and allowed five before giving way to Brett McDonald late.

"Once we got rolling on faceoffs, we were able to play the game at our pace," Wallace said. "Trent was really good today and our defense was very solid in the second half."

The Eagles will host Manhattanville College at 4:00 pm on Wednesday in the first game of the MAC Freedom Tournament.
