ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– After scoring 18 runs in one and a half games against Wesley College on Tuesday, Eastern University Softball has seen the bats go cold. The Eagles managed only six hits in a a pair of shutout losses. The defeats stretched Eastern's scoreless streak to 24 innings.
The Monarchs scored the only runs of their 4-0 win in the opener in the third inning. After Eastern senior
Meagan Quinn worked out of trouble in the first and second innings, King's put a pair of runners on with one out in the third. Quinn got a line-out in the infield for the second out, but King's first baseman Megan Beaupre lined a three-run homer to left-center for the lead. King's picked up the final run on an error.
Lexi Evelyn allowed only one hit over the final four innings, but the Eastern offense was not able to get a runner to third the rest of the way.
The Monarchs opened up the nightcap with two runs on another Beaupre homer in the first inning. Those two runs would prove to be all King's needed, but the visitors put together a big inning with five runs in the third inning. With one more in the fourth and three in the fifth, the Monarchs went up 11-0 to end the game early.
Shelby O'Neill and
Grace Gonzalez each doubled in the second game.
The Eagles (6-23, 1-11) are at Penn State Harrisburg on Tuesday before traveling to Manhattanville to wrap up the season next Saturday.
