DOYLESTOWN, Pa.– Eastern University Softball earned its first MAC Freedom win of the year with a 4-1 win in the second game of a doubleheader at Delaware Valley University.
Lexi Evelyn picked up her first collegiate win and
Alyssa Bolger delivered a two-run double to help the Eagles pick up their first league win.
Eastern picked up an unearned run in the first inning, and Evelyn worked out of a jam with a double-play in the first. Eastern's rookie hurler did not allow a hit in the second or third inning, but ran into a little trouble in the fourth. She allowed two hits and a walk in the frame but limited the damage with the help of solid defense.
"We played a clean game," Head Coach
Claire Emplit said after the game. "We felt that we would be a good fielding team this year. It came together today. We made the plays we were supposed to make and did not give away extra bases."
Bolger delivered a two-out two-RBI double to put the Eagles up 3-1 heading to the bottom of the fifth.
Meagan Quinn came on in relief and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the save.
Eastern led 2-1 early in the opener, but the Aggies scored three in the fifth to lead 4-2. The Eagles scored twice in the top of the sixth to tie the game, but the Aggies plated sixth in the bottom of the inning for the final 10-4 result.
Shelby O'Neill and
Taylor Crown each had two hits in the opener.
The Eagles (5-17, 1-9) are scheduled to host Wesley College on Tuesday. The team will be doing an organ donor awareness day for the game in honor of former teammate Olivia Hefflinger Day. Olivia died in a tragic car accident this February. Through the donation of her organs, she gave life and hope to many others. There will be the opportunity to learn more and register as organ donors.
