Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falters in the Fourth at No. 5 Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.– Heading into today's game at No. 5 Gettysburg, the Eastern University Men's Lacrosse Coaching staff wanted to set the pace of the game to be in it late. With ten minutes to play, the Eagles (1-4) trailed, 6-5, and were playing the game at their pace. The Bullets, however, scored twice in a two and a half minute stretch to go up three, and then added four tallies in the final five minutes to pull away to a 12-5 win.

Through the opening three quarters of the game, the Eagles had an answer for every Gettysburg strike. The Bullets (6-0) had more shots and shots on goal, but the Eagles made their attempts count. Gettysburg scored the first two goals of the game to lead 2-0 in the first five minutes, but Matt Auletti scored on a Hassan Mackey pass to halve the Bullet lead at the midpoint of the opening frame.

Trent Ashton then tied the game with his first of two goals on the afternoon and answered a Gettysburg goal tie the game at 3-3 at half. Jameal Hadeed had seven of his 11 saves in the first half.

The Bullets scored to open the third, but Sean Fechter answered to tie the game at 4-4. Jake Billera answered the next Gettysburg goal with a long-range effort with 3:31 on the clock in the third. The Bullets scored with a minute to go in the third, but the result was still in question when the teams took the field for the final period.

Gettysburg won five of seven faceoffs in the fourth and forced six Eastern turnovers.

Gettysburg entered today's game with consecutive wins over No. 1 Salisbury, No. 15 Stevenson, and No. 4 York. They are the third top-20 program Eastern has played this year.

The Eagles will host Ursinus on Wednesday.
