OWINGS MILLS, Md.– After a snowbound week of indoor practice, Eastern University Baseball traveled to Stevenson University for a pair of games. The Eagles played nine innings in the morning against Stevenson and another nine in the afternoon against Frostburg State. The Eastern offense never got going as the Eagles dropped the first game 13-5 and the second 7-0.
"It was a tough day today," Head Coach
Jed Morris said after the long day. "It was great to be playing baseball in spite of all the weather we have dealt with back home. We had trouble executing like we did on Tuesday, and no matter how talented you are in baseball if you can't execute some of the small things it will catch up with you."
First- year catcher
Jake Jones delivered the biggest highlight of the day with a two-RBI double in the fourth inning of the first game to pull Eastern to within a pair of runs at 5-3, but Stevenson rallied with four in the bottom of the fifth to pull away.
The Eagles had eight hits in the nightcap, but were unable to push a run across the plate against a fresh Frostburg (9-1) side.
Steve Sattanino allowed only two earned runs in his five-inning start.
Timmy Gorton had three hits on the day and moved into second place on Eastern's career list with 169 hits. Former teammate
Angelo Kelly holds the record with 197.
"Overall, we still feel positively about the pitching staff, the hitters and the defense," Morris concluded, "but just need to grind out the adjustments next week to become a better team."
The Eagles are slated to host Lebanon Valley at the Yard on Wednesday.
