WILKES-BARRE, Pa. – A tremendous defensive effort proved not to be enough as Eastern University Women's Basketball dropped a 58-44 decision at King's College. On the strength of a 15-to-0 run over the final seven minutes of the half, the Eagles led 25-20 at intermission, but the host Monarchs took advantage of Eastern foul trouble in the third quarter to turn the tables and pull away.
The Eagles (4-17, 1-9 MAC Freedom) struggled out of the gate and picked up several early fouls against the bigger Monarchs. Eastern shot only 3-of-17 from the floor in the first quarter and the Monarchs made six free throws to build a 14-8 lead at the end of one quarter. King's (13-8, 8-2 MAC Freedom) answered a
Da'Naziah Brown basket with six quick points to lead 20-10.
With several regulars on the bench in foul trouble, Eastern built a rally on good defense and consistent rebounding.
Viki Kneis scored six points in the burst.
The Monarchs turned the tables with a 19-to-4 run early in the second half. The Monarchs found opportunities inside and went to the foul line early in the burst. With King's taking care of the ball and taking good shots, Eastern was unable to close the gap in the fourth quarter.
Kneis picked up her first career double-double with ten points and ten rebounds, and
Taylor Azer also finished with ten points and seven rebounds. Rebecca Prociak scored 18 points to lead King's.
The Eagles will host FDU-Florham on Wednesday at 6:00 pm. The game will be a breast cancer awareness event.
