CLERMONT, Fla. – Eastern University Softball split a pair of run-shortened morning games to finish the team's Spring Break trip with a 4-2 mark. Senior pitcher
Meagan Quinn spun a 1-hit gem in an 8-0 win over Johnson State in the early game. Rose-Hulman (4-2) broke open a close game with four runs in the fifth and went on to win 14-0 in the second game.
Emily Loomis started the Eastern scoring with a one-out double in the first inning to drive in
Samantha Albertson. Loomis had a pair of hits and RBI's in the game. Albertson did the work with an RBI single in the second, but the Eagles, who loaded the bases with only one out, could only get a single run as the Badger infield executed well on back-to-back plays.
While a two run lead was all Quinn would need, the Eagles picked up three more tallies in the third.
Alyssa Bolger singled to drive in
Leah Lozzi,
Deanna Young picked up her first career RBI when she knocked in Bolger. Young then created the next run with a stolen base and a pair of free bases on wild pitches.
Quinn faced just just one over the minimum to pick up her first win of the season.
Loomis drove in Albertson with two outs in the fifth to end the game.
Rose-Hulman scored twice in the first and once in the third, but the Eastern offense was unable to score against Engineer starter Alexis Price.
The 4-2 mark in Florida is the best start for the Eagles since 2012.
The Eagles will come north and return to action with a home doubleheader against Eagle Road Rival Cabrini College on March 13.
