Men's Lacrosse Falls to Haverford

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse jumped out to an early 3-1 lead, but the visiting Haverford College Fords held the Eagles to three goals over the final three quarters to earn a 10-6 non-league win. Mark Buannic led the Eastern attack with three goals and an assist.

Buannic put the Eagles up in the first minute off a good feed to the crease by Sam Emig. The Fords drew level in the 11th minute, but Buannic put Eastern up 3-1 on a close finish in transition on a feed from Bryan Mizell.

A minute later, Eastern took advantage of a man-up chance to grab a two-goal lead. Buannic three a skip pass to Matt Auletti on the right side, and the sophomore attackman skipped a low-to-low shot in from 15 yards out. The Eagles won the ensuing faceoff and had the ball with a chance for the last shot, but the Fords forced a turnover and scored with .1 second left on the clock to grab some momentum heading into the first break.

The Fords scored the first two goals of the period and answered Buannic's third tally of the day with two more to lead 6-4 at halftime. The Eagles struggled in the clearing game in the second period, and Haverford took advantage. Eastern was only 2-fo-5 in escaping their own zone. That, coupled with a 4-to-2 deficit at the faceoff X , gave the visitors the possession they would need to turn the game in their favor.

Hassan Mackey scored in an unsettled situation early in the third quarter, but Haverford answered with two more goals to stretch the lead to 8-5. Jake Billera scored his third of the year to close the gap back to two goals with just over two minutes left in the third, but again the Fords found a goal late int he quarter to stretch the lead.

With a three-goal edge, Haverford became even more deliberate and scored the only goal of the fourth quarter with two minutes left.
