WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Basketball outscored the host Wilkes University Colonels 44-31 in the first half and held on for an 81-68 season-ending win.
Taylor Price scored 20 points and grabbed a game-high 13 points in her final game as an Eagle.
The Eagles (6-19, 3-11 MAC Freedom) led 44-24 on
Regie Robinson lay-up with a minute to play before the Colonels closed out the half on a 7-to-0 run. Led by 5-of-10 shooting from Price Eastern shot 44.7 percent from the floor in the first half. The Colonels also shot 44 percent from the floor, but the Eagles forced six more turnovers and only gave up a pair of offensive rebounds in the half to earn 11 more shooting attempts.
Wilkes cut the Eastern lead to ten points on three occasions in the second half, but each time, the Eagles had an answer.
"This was a great team win," Head Coach
Eric Houston said. "We played unselfish basketball and our defense helped us to get some easy buckets. I am very happy that our seniors were able to end the year with a pair of wins. It has been a privilege to coach them."
Amanda Riiff made three 3-pointers int he game to finish with 15 points. With 160 made 3-pointers in her career, she finishes third on Eastern's career list in that category.
Fellow senior
Taylor Azer finished with six points, four rebounds, a pair of assists, and a pair of steals.
Price was a perfect 6-for-6 from the foul line and dished out five assists to go with her massive double-double. In 104 career games, Price finishes with 1229 points, 633 rebounds, and 343 rebounds. She is tied for third in program history in games played and today moved into eighth on Eastern's career scoring list.
Robinson was 6-of-11 from the floor and finished with 13 points. Eleven players scored for the Eagles in the game.
Gianna Roberts and Catey McFadden each scored 13 to lead Wilkes (4-21, 0-14 MAC Freedom).
"We like our returning core," Houston concluded, "and we feel very good about the group we have coming. We are hoping to build good momentum off this last week going forward."
