PURCHASE, N.Y.– Eastern University Women's Basketball led 15-12 with a few seconds to go in the first quarter, but the host Manhattanville College Valiants hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and outscored the Eagles 26-6 in the second quarter on the way to a 70-45 MAC Freedom win.
Taylor Price led the Eagles with 22 points.
Price and
Regie Robinson put the Valiants on their heels in the first quarter. Price hit a pair of 3-pointers and a mid-range jumper and Robinson had a basket and earned a pair of trips to the foul line, and the Eagles had the ball with a chance to hold for the final shot to go up five. A turnover early in the shot clock, however, gave the Valiants (18-5, 8-4 MAC Freedom) a chance to score at the other end, and they converted a late 3-pointer to tie the game.
The second quarter proved to be the difference in the game. The Eagles made only 2-of-9 from the floor and missed six free throws while getting outscored 26-to-6 in the period. The Valiants ended the half the same way they ended the first quarter with a 3-pointer from the wing to build a 41-21 lead going to the locker room.
Manhattanville squashed any thoughts of a comeback with the first eight points of the second half.
The Eagles (4-19, 1-11 MAC will play on Tuesday at home against Delaware Valley. The program will honor its four seniors before the game.
