ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Basketball shot 50 percent (17-of-34) in the first half and never trailed en route to an 83-50 home win over the Rutgers-Camden Raptors.
Darius Washington hit on on 5-of-9 from behind the arc in the game and Victor Peña finished three assists short of a triple double with ten points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists.
How it Happened:
From the Start, the Eagles (4-1) committed to working inside out against the smaller Raptors (0-5).
Michael Bowlers scored 12 of his 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from inside in the first half. Peña had eight points and nine rebounds at the break. Washington and
Austin Duncan capitalized on the inside presence to finish with nine and seven points at half. Washington hit on 3-of-5 from distance and Duncan was 3-of-5 overall. The teams each took two first-half free throws as Eastern built a 39-18 lead at the break.
The second half had a little less rhythm to it as the Eastern lead grew. Senior forward
Marquise Peel scored 11 points and had three of his four rebounds on the offensive end. The Eastern lead bumped up over thirty on back-to-back baskets by
Brennan Kastens and went to 36 on a 3-pointer from
Michaiah Fraction with five minutes to play. The Eastern reserves kept the edge at or above thirty for the rest of the game.
