MADISON, N.J.– Three different Jakes scored goals as Eastern University Men's Soccer continued its winning ways with a convincing 4-1 win at FDU-Florham. The Eagles (8-2-1, 2-0 MAC Freedom) scored twice in each half on the way to picking up an important three points in the league standings.
How it Happened:
Senior center back
Jacob Myers started the scoring in the sixth minute with a redirect of a
Colin Furlong free kick. Myers now has five goals in 11 games this fall and 19 tallies for his career. Furlong, also a senior, has nine assists this year and 27 for his career. He moved into a tie for fifth on Eastern's career list with his helper today.
The Eagles doubled the lead on the first goal of the fall from
Jake Cahill. The senior left back headed home a cross from
Cade Harmon in the fifteenth minute.
FDU cut into he Eastern lead in the 29th minute and the game went to intermission with Eastern leading 2-1. The Eagles had an 8-5 edge in first-half shots.
The Eagles dominated possession and field position to start the second half, but the lead remained at a goal until Cahill earned a foul in the box and
Jake Sankey converted the penalty kick in the 74th minute. Sankey has scored all three of his goals this fall on Saturdays.
Liam Harmon slotted a ball through for
Sam Sutherland in the 85th minute for the final insurance goal.
Anthony Hitchcock made two saves in goal before before
Ben Lochstampfor came on to finish the match.
Coach Payne Says:
"Overall it was a good performance from us today. I thought it was hard to find space on the small field but overall we handled it well. We were able to use our depth and wear them down over the 90 minutes."
"Cahill had a great day. He was able to get in the box and score. He also got fouled twice in the box. What a great day for him."
"It was good to score in the run of play a couple of times. I'm happy for Cade and Liam to both get assists in the match. They have been working hard and doing their jobs well but not showing up on the scoresheet. It was good to see their work rewarded with good finishes."
"Misericordia will be a tough test on Tuesday night. I expect them to be organized and hard working."
