Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls in Semifinals at FDU-Florham

MADISON, N.J.– Eastern University Field Hockey kept things close, but the fourth-seeded Eagles were unable to generate enough offense and a pair of late goals from the host and top-seeded FDU-Florham Devils put the game out of reach. The 4-0 loss was the first time a MAC Freedom opponent shut down the Eastern attack this year.

How It Happened:
Behind some very solid goalkeeping and good defensive play, the Eagles kept the Devils off the scoresheet for the first 22 minutes. FDU finally broke through on a penalty corner in the 23rd minute. The Devils doubled the lead on their next shot three minutes later.

Marley Redfield made seven first-half stops, and though the Eagles trailed 10-1 in shots, a 2-0 deficit was within range for a team that averaged just under four goals a game in MAC Freedom competition this fall.

The Eagles had some forays into the FDU circle, but the Devil defense was avle to keep the Eastern attacked from getting good looks at goal and the game remained at 2-0 until the 63rd minute.

FDU scored in the 63rd and again in the 67th minute to put the match out of reach. With the win the Devils will advance to Saturday's MAC Freedom Championship match against DeSales.

Coach Azzarano Says:
"FDU is a very strong team that took advantage of their opportunities. Our team worked extremely hard in a very high-energy game."

"Mo [Moriah Greene] played out of her mind on defense and in transition, and  Marley had some good saves."

"We can hold our heads high and be proud of who we were this year. I am pleased that this group had the grit to earn a spot int he tournament. After some time has passed, we will be tough and honest about what needs to be better. We battled tonight."
