Field Hockey Falls to Arcadia on Senior Day

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Field Hockey dropped a 3-0 decision to the visiting Arcadia University Knights int he regular-season finale for both teams. The two teams played through miserable conditions. Eastern, who will continue the season in the MAC Freedom Tournament on Wednesday, honored seniors Ali Hoag and Macey Talhelm before the game.

How It Happened:
The Eagles (6-12) came into today's match with one of the highest scoring offenses in the MAC Freedom and on a three-game winning streak. The Knights (13-5) will be the second seed in the upcoming MAC Commonwealth Tournament. The Knights jumped ahead in the fifth minute on a nice passing combo at the edge of the circle. Lindsay Bechtold put away her seventh of the year on a pass from Gabby Sedares.

Shortly after that goal, power went out on campus.

The teams played on.

While the Knights had the better of possession and field position, the Eagles had chances. The Eastern defense, however, had to work to fend off the Arcadia penalty corners. The pressure eventually led to a 2-0 lead ona  rebound goal in the 25th minute.

The Knights stretched their lead to 3-0 on a goal in the 57th minute. Alli Dickinson made a defensive save, but Arcadia's Carly Flickenger was in position to drive home the rebound.

Both teams took six shots in the second half, but the Eagles were unable to cut into the Arcadia lead.

Coach Azzarano Says:
"Today we did not play to our strengths. We had opportunities to score, but we did not capitalize when the chances came. Every corner or ball below the 25 is an opportunity for us to generate a corner, free hit, or goal and we need to want it."

"We will take our breakdowns from today and make them our focus points in the coming days. We need to see an aggressive shift as we prepare for our game against FDU on Wednesday."

Up Next:
The Eagles will play at FDU Florham on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in the opening round of the MAC Freedom Tournament.
