Rally Not Enough for Women's Soccer at F & M

Box Score LANCASTER, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer dropped a 2-1 decision at Franklin & Marshall College in the team's final non-league test of the year. Casey Avello scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

How It Happened.

The Diplomats scored twice in a four minute stretch int he first half. The opening goal came late in the 15th minute on a corner kick. The Diplomats played short and served a big bending ball into the box. Adrianna Rowlands made the initial save, but Nicolette Runko was in the right place to bury the rebound. The second goal came less than four minutes later. After an Eastern turnover at midfield, the Diplomats played a ball over the top for Runko, she held off a pair of Eastern defenders to finish her second of the day.

The Diplomats had a 4-2 edge in first-half corners and an 8-3 edge in shots.

The Eagles had more of the play in the second half. That possession turned into an Eastern corner kick in the 60th minute. Avello headed home a Zoe Galvin serve for her second goal of the season. Galvin leads the Eagles with six assists.

The Eagles had four consecutive corners to end the match, but were unable to convert the tying goal.

Coach West Says:
"I thought we played a great second half. We were able to regain control the territory battle by winning 50-50 balls and were able to create more scoring opportunities. We didn't play poorly in the first half, but we lost the battle for contested balls and that made a big difference. We showed resiliency in the second half for Saturday."

Up Next:
The Eagles (6-10-1) have what could amount to a play-in game for the MAC Freedom Tournament on Saturday. If Wilkes wins or ties at FDU-Florham on Friday night, the match between Eastern and King's on Saturday will be for the fourth seed in the Tournament. Eastern would need to win the match, while the Monarchs would only need a tie. The Eagles will honor Adrianna Rowlands for senior day.
