GRANTHAM, Pa.— On Wednesday, Eastern University Women's soccer locked up a top-three spot in the MAC Commonwealth Tournament. Heading to No. 6 Messiah for the league finale, the Eastern women had a chance to improve their seed with a win, but a draw would have only meant a return to Grantham as a three seed. The Eagles held the Falcons scoreless through the first half, but the hosts broke through for a 3-0 win.
Faith Leake made nine stops in the first half. Messiah's first goal came on their second corner kick of the second half. A tough redirection found the back of the net in the 49th minute. The hosts doubled their lead in the 71st minute and added a third in 77th minute.
The Eagles (9-7-2, 5-2-1) finish the third seed for the third consecutive year. They will travel to York College on Wednesday for a 7:00 pm game. York earned a 2-1 win in St. Davids when the teams met in the beginning of the month. The Spartans (13-1-4) have scored just four times in their last four matches. They picked up matching 2-1 wins over Alvernia and Albright inside a pair of 0-0 draws with Messiah and Widener. Withe the draw today, Widener locked up a Monday home date with Albright.
