PURCHASE, N.Y– Eastern University Field earned 23 penalty corners and fired 24 shots on goal on the way to a convincing 5-0 win at Manhattanville College.
Alison Hoag scored twice in the win.
How It Happened:
The Eagles had control of the match from the outset, but a scrambling Valiant defense kept the Eagles off the board with an assortment of blocks and saves. Senior midfielder
Macey Talhelm finally broke through with a finish of a loose ball in the 20th minute. Hoag doubled the lead on a pass from
Alli Dickinson in the 32nd minute. The two have combined on nearly the same goal in each of the last three games. Dickinson, who started the year as a defender, has taken advantage of her move into the midfield with three helpers from the left wing.
The Eagles ahd a 19-2 edge in first half shots, but only led 2-0 at the break.
Eastern (5-11, 3-3 MAC Freedom) Converted on three penalty corner goals in the second half. In the 40th minute,
Ali Balmer scored the first off the insert from
Hannah Doll. Hoag knocked home her team-best 15th of the year of a pass from
Joelle Wash less than a minute later. Wash capped the scoring with her tenth of the season on a smash from the top of the circle. Doll picked up an assist on that goal as well.
Marley Redfield made two saves to earn the shutout.
Coach Azzarano says:
"Today we were very good. With the momentum that we are building, we are working to be even better. We are staying focused and moving forward one day at a time."
"We generated a lot of attack early in the game but Macey set the tone after scoring the first goal. She cleaned up a rebound and placed her shot in the lower left corner. She had many intercepts and worked well with Hannah Doll in the middle of the field to keep possession of the ball. Ally Hoag, Joelle Wash, and Ali Balmer were great in the circle, earning and executing corners throughout the game."
"Marley played very well in the cage. She kept it simple, stayed behind the ball, and had strong clears."
