Women's Soccer Stopped at Home

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern Unviersity Women's Soccer was unable to find the back of the net in a 5-0 Homecoming loss to the visiting Wilkes University Colonels. The Eagles (5-8-1, 1-2-1 MAC Freedom) fell behind in the fourth minute.

How It Happened:
Wilkes (7-4-1, 4-0 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring off a corner kick. The Eagles were able to redirect the initial serve to the top of the box, but a quick re-serve to the scoring area resulted in a volley from six yards out. The Colonels doubled their lead in the 27th minute off a shot from distance by Emily Wirth. The Wilkes lead grew to three in the 42nd minute off a great left-footed strike from Wirth at the top of the box.

The lead grew to 4-0 in the 64th minute, and the Colonels finished the coring in the 73rd. Eastern had some chances late, but Alondra Cervantes hit her free kick off the top of the wall and Amy Radcliffe pushed an effort from inside the box wide right.

Up Next:
Eastern will look to end its goal-scoring drought against Delaware Valley on Tuesday. The Agggies lost to Misericordia this afternoon.

The Eagles control their own destiny in the race to make the MAC Freedom Tournament, but today's result puts means that the Eagles will likely need to get at least six points over the final three matches. Eastern, DeSales, and King's have each lost to Wilkes and Misericordia. Those three teams will play each other over the final three matches of the season. The two teams that take the most points out of those matches will be in the driver's seat for a spot in the tournament.
