DALLAS, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Soccer fell to the host No. 12 Misericordia University Cougars in an early season test between teams without a loss in the MAC Freedom. The Cougars scored four times in the opening 17 minutes of the match and held the Eagles off the scoreboard for a 6-0 final.
How It Happened:
Misericordia (9-2-1, 3-0 MAC Freedom) scored int he seventh and eighth minutes. The Cougars first two goals each came after turnovers near midfield. Long accurate passes found gaps in the Eastern back row, and the Misericordia forwards were on target with their finishes.
The Cougars added two more goals in the 15th and 17th minutes. The first came with another long pass into the attacking end and a finish. The fourth goal came after a good cross from the right flank.
The Eagles were unable to put a shot on goal in the match.
Adrianna Rowlands made eight saves in the first half, and
Grace Schreckengast made seven in the second. The Cougars scored their final goal on a penalty kick in the 88th minutes.
Coach West Says;
"We struggled to handle their pressure and pace tonight. We made mistakes and lacked composure when we did have time on the ball. We did have moments where we did a good job keeping the ball, but we were not consistent enough. Grace was great in goal in the second half. We have two days to get better before homecoming and another good opponent in Wilkes."
