DOYLESTOWN, Pa.– Throughout this season, Eastern University Women's Basketball has been in most games to the very end. Tonight at Delaware Valley, however, the Eagles fell behind in the second quarter and were never able to close to single digits in the second half in a 67-50 MAC Freedom loss.
The two teams were tied at 20 when
Amanda Riiff hit a 3-pointer with just over six and a half minutes to play in the first half. The Aggies responded with an open 3-pointer at the top of the key which sparked a decisive 12-0 run for the hosts. Eastern trailed 36-25 at half.
Delaware Valley pushed the lead to as much as 18 in the early part of the third quarter before the Eagles scratched back to close the gap to 10 points behind some good offense from
Viki Kneis who scored six of her team-high 10 points in a burst. The Eagles had the ball with the shot clock turned off with a chance to go to the fourth quarter down 10, but a Delaware Valley steal and buzzer-beating 3-pointer sent the Eagles to the break down fifteen.
The Aggies held their lead to the finish.
The Eagles shot only 35 percent for the game. The Aggies (6-12, 3-4 MAC Freedom) hit 7-of-16 from behind the arc in the win. Ashley Smink scored a game-high 15 to lead the Aggies.
The Eagles (4-14, 1-6 MAC Freedom) will start the second half of the MAC Freedom season at DeSales on Saturday.
