PURCHASE, N.Y.– Eastern University Men's Soccer (7-2, 0-1 MAC Freedom) dropped its MAC Freedom opener by a 3-1 score at Manhattanville College.
The host Valiants scored in the 16th minute and again in the 41st minute to lead 2-0 at halftime. Manhattanville had a 10-2 edge in shots through the first half.
The Valiants made it 3-0 shortly before the hour mark on a goal by Christian Araujo.
The Eagles began to build the attack over the final half hour and grabbed a goal back on an
Andrew Fenstermacher header on a
Colin Furlong corner kick in the 78th minute, but there would be no miracle comeback today.
"There is not much to say. We didn't show up to play," Head Coach
Jeremy Payne said after the match. "We knew how important today was. We showed some life with 20 minutes to go but it was far too late."
The Eagles will have a tough non-league test at Gettysburg next Wednesday.
