Men's Soccer Falls in Overtime at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa.– Quentin Keibler made what appeared to be a game-saving play to stop a point blank shot with 40 seconds left in the first overtime period, but the host Gettysburg College Bullets scored on the ensuing corner kick to claim a 2-1 win in a non-league battle of regionally-ranked opponents.

The Bullets struck first in the 38th minute on Patrick Santini's first goal of the game. The Gettysburg forward also finished in overtime and now has 15 goals for the Bullets (8-2).

The Eagles (7-3) drew level at the hour-mark on a corner kick goal by Sean Dougherty. The senior midfielder cleaned up a loose ball in the box and put it away for his second goal of the year. It was Eastern's only corner kick of the second half.

The Eastern defense fought off several good chances by the Bullets over the final half-hour to force overtime. Gettysburg had seven corner kicks and numerous restart chances in the second half, btu the Eastern back row stood its ground and limited the hosts to only three shots in the final 45 minutes of regulation.

Keibler made his first stop of the overtime six minutes into the frame, and then the Eagles were able to work away from their own goal. The Bullets had the best chance of the overtime with 40 seconds left when Precious Ozoh found space behind the Eastern back row. The Gettysburg midfielder blasted a shot toward the upper corner that Keibler pushed over the bar.

With time winding down, Ozoh ran to the left corner to take the kick himself. His serve bent toward the back post where Santini met it with a clean strike for the game-winner. It was Gettysburg's 13th corner kick of the match. Ozah picked up his second career assist on the play.

The Eagles will attempt to snap their two-game skid at Delaware Valley University on Saturday. That match is slated to start at 2:30.
