Volleyball Drops Two at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.– Eastern University Volleyball dropped a pair of matches at Susquehanna University today. the Eagles dropped a three-set decision to Johns Hopkins and fell in four to the host Riverhawks.

Though the Eagles got a couple players back in a limited fashion from injury, the Eagles played without first-year standout Caroline Shelby.

Eastern never got the attack going in the loss to Hopkins (10-2). The Blue Jays hit .355 in the match, and the Eagles managed just a paltry .046. Jasmine Kim finished with a team-high eight kills.

The Eagles hit .220 and fought off a set-point to win the opening set 26-24. Kim had two kills in the final three points as Eastern rallied from 24-23.

The Riverhawks ran out to a 16-5 lead int he second set and coasted home to a 25-15 win to level the match at a set apiece. Eastern had a chance to go up a set with a 24-23 lead in the third set. Susquehanna scored the final three points of the set to seize the advantage in the match. Eastern hit -.067 in the third set.

Susquehanna pulled away to a 13-7 lead and held on for a 25-16 win in the fourth set.

Michelle Paulsen hit .400 with 12 kills. Kim has 14 kills, but hit just .061, and Ally Spillane also had 12 kills. Miranda Kauffman finished with a team-high 19 digs.

The Eagles will look to continue to get healthy heading into Wednesday's important MAC Freedom test against DeSales. The two teams have met in eight of the last nine MAC Freedom Championship games.

That game will be at Eastern and starts at 7:00 pm.
