Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Settles for Draw at Stockton

GALLOWAY, N.J.– For the second time this season, Eastern University Women's Soccer settled for a scoreless tie on the road. Tonight, the Eagles battled to a tie at Stockton University. Adrianna made nine saves to earn her second 110 minute shutout of the year.

The host Ospreys carried the play through the opening 90 minutes, but the Eastern back row limited the Stockton offense to mostly shots from the perimeter. Courtney Davis, Alex Imperatore, and Carli Sitkowski each played the full match in the back row.

Stockton's best chance came on one of the final plays of regulation. After a deflected ball over the end line, the hosts had a corner kick. The Eagles headed the initial serve, but the clearance fell short and Rowlands had to dive to her left to stop the shot from Salena LeDonne. Stockton had a 20-4 edge in shots through regulation.

The Eagles flipped the game in overtime. While both teams had two shots and a corner in the first overtime, the Eagles had the bulk of possession. Alondra Cervantes put two shots on frame in the period. The first was a screamer from the top of the box after only 90 seconds.

The Eastern advantage was more pronounced in the second overtime. In the 105th minute, Nicole Weenink won a loose ball near midfield and took space toward goal before getting fouled. Caroline Lozzi's free kick from 25 yards out sailed just over the bar.

Weenink created another chance in the 109th minute with a strong run up the left side. The sophomore forward slotted the ball back into the middle of the field where Melanie Witter met the serve at the penalty spot. Her shot slipped just wide. Cervantes had a final shot in the 110th minute, but Stockton goalkeeper Nicole Pallante was in position to make her third save of the overtime.

Eastern (2-3-2) will host Lancaster Bible College on Saturday at 11:00 am.
