Softball Drops Twinbill at King's

WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– IN their second trip to Wilkes Barre in the last four days, Eastern University Softball dropped both ends of a doubleheader at King's College. The Monarchs broke open a 2-2 tie with a three-run third in a 5-2 win in the opener before pulling away to an 8-0 win in the run-shortened nightcap.

After falling behind 2-0 in the opener, the Eagles scratched out two runs in the top of the third. Sam Albertson started the rally with a two-out single. Grace Gonzalez doubled to left center to drive in Albertson. Jess Snader then singled to right to drive in Gonzalez. Melissa Irick singled and Kelsey Clever walked, but the Eagles could not string together a sixth at bat without an out and the rally died.

After a bunt single to lead off the bottom of the third, the Monarchs scored three runs on a triple and a pair of doubles. Melissa Irick took the loss in game one.

The Monarchs scored five runs on three hits in the bottom of the second to break the game open. Snader bunted for a hit to lead off the second before getting caught stealing. The Eagles sent just 16 hitters to the plate in the loss.

The Eagles (3-15, 0-6 MAC Freedom) are scheduled to play at Alvernia tomorrow in a rescheduled game that seems entirely likely to be rescheduled again before continuing in league play at FDU-Florham on Saturday.
