ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Baseball fell behind early and was not able to recover in a 23-3 home loss to Arcadia. The visiting Knights hit three home runs off Eastern pitching. The Eagles, meanwhile, did not pick up their first hit of the game until
Freddy Yahn singled in the fifth inning.
The Knights (16-7) jumped on Eastern starter
Grant Fisher for two runs in the first inning and six more in the second. Nick Cardace delivered the big blow of the second inning with a grand slam. Fisher worked through the third and fourth innings without allowing another run, but Arcadia put up five runs in the top of the sixth.
The Eagles were able to scratch out a three runs in the middle innings but were never able to significantly close the gap. Joel Bartoni pitched five scoreless innings for Arcadia.
Head Coach
Jed Morris was pleased with the work from
Kyle Daddario in his first pitching appearance of his college career and noted that
Mac McGrath came off the bench and had some quality at bats and made a couple good plays in the field.
The Eagles are slated to play at FDU-Florham on Friday before hosting the Devils in a doubleheader on Saturday.
