Women's Lacrosse Wins Finale as Charlebois Hits Milestone

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.– It is finals week at Eastern, and Eastern University had one final test on its schedule for the 2017 season. The Eagles outlasted the host Delaware Valley Aggies in a high-scoring affair. Anna Charlebois became the sixth Eastern University Player to score 200 goals in her career. With six first-half goals, the senior midfielder finished her career right on the number.

The two teams entered today tied in the MAC Freedom standings, and while both teams had been eliminated from the post-season by close losses, there was, according to Head Coach Kim Campbell a lot on the line for the two teams.

"We wanted to win," Campbell said, "but we were really focused on team successes. Delaware Valley worked very hard in the game to close the gap, and I loved the way our offense responded. Today was a very good team win."

Charlebois scored the first three Eastern goals, and Nicole Hege and Liz Brennan each added goals to put the Eagles up 5-2 with 18 minutes left in the first half. Delaware Valley cut the gap with a Graeleigh Lackey goal seconds after Brennan's goal, but then the Eastern seniors took over for a bit. Eva Ehrhardt fed Charlebois for a 6-3 edge and then Moriah Bourk  scored her first and second goals of the year to put the Eagles up by five. Mackenzie Dix took a pass from Bourk with eight minutes left to answer an Aggie goal.

Charlebois scored her fifth of the day and 199th of her career for a 10-5 lead. Lackey answered 40 seconds later.

Julie Haggan set up Charelebois' big moment after an interception of an Aggie outlet pass. Haggan ran hard down the right alley and fed her senior teammate on the move in the middle of the fan. Charlebois powered home a shot just under the crossbar. Current assistant coach Grace Grifftih was the last Eastern player to reach 200 goals. Charlebois sits behind Andrea Collesidis, Kate Hoy, Griffith, Amy Dutra, and Jessie Basch.

The Eagles held an 11-7 lead at the half, but the Aggies closed the gap with three-straight goals to start the second half.

Bourk and Dix scored and Brennan added two more to bump the Eastern lead back to five goals. While the Eagles never trailed in the game, the Aggies were able to close the gap to 17-16 with 5:40 on the clock. The Eagles won the draw, but a turnover gave the Aggies a chance to tie. Alina Odjemski stopped a Lackey shot and Liz Brennan picked up the ground ball.

The Eagles held the ball until the final seconds when Brennan powered home her fifth of the afternoon and 69th goal of the year. That is the eighth highest single-season total in program history. When Collesidis graduated in 2002, she had set the All-Time NCAA Scoring mark. She scored more than 70 all four years. Hoy, Durte, and Griffith each did it once.

"What a beautiful day,' Campbell said after the win, "[It was a] competitive game that drew great teamwork and  beautiful lacrosse. There was quick passing, smart shooting, doubles in defense.
So many ripple effects that led to goals and the win. We played smart, composed, possession lacrosse and moved the ball and were aware of the time."

The Eagles improved by a game in the standings, but Campbell felt that this year was a big stepping-stone year for the program.
