Men's Lacrosse Tops Delaware Valley in Regular Season Finale

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse overcame a slow start on the way to a 10-4 home win over Delaware Valley University. The Eagles started all eight seniors in their final regular season game on Olson Field.

Finals Week started on Friday, and in the early going, it seemed that the visiting Aggies were prepared to give the Eagles a tough test under the midday sun. The Aggies went up 2-0 on a pair of gaols from Chris Coyle out of the midfield. As the day wore on, the near-record temperatures seemed to take their toll on black-clad visitors. While the heat had an effect on the game, the deeper Eastern team grabbed momentum with a pair of goals in the final three minutes of the first period.

Trevor Gallion opened the scoring with 2:59 on the clock on a pass from Bryan Mizell. Ninety seconds later Gallion fed Tim Lamb on the doorstep. Lamb threw a series of fakes  before getting Delaware Valley goalie Nic Brown to commit. Once the goalie moved Lamb dropped his 26th of the year into the goal to tie the game.

The Eastern momentum continued into the second quarter. Mark Buannic put the Eagles in front for good after a Delaware Valley clearing attempt failed. The sophomore attack picked up the ball after it had gone out of bounds and went straight to the goal for his 26th of the year. Minutes later, Gallion won a race in the subbing game and and found Matt Martin in an open spot. Martin's low-to-high effort found the net for his first of two goals on the afternoon. Five minutes later, Martin converted ona pass from Jake Pousson to put the Eagles up 5-2.

The two teams traded goals going into halftime. Nick Schendge scored for Delaware Valley and Jake Pousson scored for Eastern.

Eastern finished only 6-of-27 shots in the first half. Brown had 10 of his 21 saves before halftime, but the Eagles missed the cage too often for their coaches' liking. For the game, the Eagles took 54 shots. After the game, the coaching staff reiterated that the team's percentages were going ot have to get better as they move into the post-season.

The Eagles scored the first three goals of the second half to build a comfortable 9-3 lead. The Aggies scored with a little over a minute left in the third but were unable to solve Jameal Hadeed or Austin Mutter in the fourth period. Buannic scored the only goal of the fourth period on a Pousson pass. Pousson finished with a goal and three assists. Buannic led all scorers with three goals.

Zach Bauer was 14-of-18 on faceoffs for the Eagles, and fellow freshman Chris Durning scooped seven ground balls.

The Eagles will host DeSales on Wednesday at 4:00. The Bulldogs lost at Misericordia this afternoon. Misericordia is the top seed and will host FDU-Florham.
