WILKES-BARRE, Pa.– Eastern Unviersity Men's Lacrosse scored the first 14 goals of the game and cruised to a 16-3 win at Wilkes University on Wednesday night. With the win, the Eagles are locked into the second spot in the MAC Freedom Men's Lacrosse Tournament. The Eagles will host DeSales on May 3rd.
In the games leading into tonight's game, the Eagles had been struggling to finish possessions with goals. Eastern had over 50 shots in a 9-7 win over King's. While the activity in the opponent's end is good, there was significant frustration about the number of good chances that went unfinished.
The Eagles put 11-of-17 first quarter shots on goal. Five different players scored in the period for a quick 5-0 lead. Neither team scored in the first eight minutes of the second quarter before the Eagles put away four goals in a three-minute stretch.
Jake Billera had two of his four goals in the stretch, and
Bryan Goetz drove home his second of the night.
Zach Bauer ended the run with his first career goal. Bauer won 7-of-12 faceoffs in the game.
Jameal Hadeed made five of his seven saves in the first half. He did not allow a goal in 45 minutes.
The Eagles tacked on five more goals in the third period.
Matt Martin, Marc Buannic, and
Hassan Mackey each scored their first goals of the day in the period. Billera buried his fourth and
Sean Fechter scored his second.
The Colonels got on the board with nine minutes left and added another goal 45 seconds later.
Matt Auletti answered with his second goal of the year at the midpoint of the quarter.
Braxton Brent scored his first career goal to wrap up the scoring.
The Eagles (10-6, 6-1) will face Delaware Valley in their final regular season test at 1:00 on Saturday. Game time for the playoff game will be announced later this week.
