Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Races Past Lancaster Bible

LANCASTER, Pa.– For the first time since a season-opening win over Gwynedd-Mercy University in 2014, Eastern University Women's Lacrosse scored 20 goals in a game. The Eagles needed all that offense in a 20-15 win at Lancaster Bible. Julie Haggan and Liz Brennan each scored six times, and Anna Charlebois finished with five goals and five assists to lift the Eagles to their first win of the year.

The Eagles took the lead on a Charlebois tally 65 seconds into the contest and never trailed. The host Chargers (1-1) tied the score in the fourth minute of the match, but Mollie Smith converted a pass from Liz Brennan to start a three-goal burst that would put the Eagles up for good. Brennan scored the final two goals in the burst. Sabrina Campbell earned the assist on the first goal.

The Eagles built their lead to 9-3 on a Charlebois tally with 10:53 left in the half, but the Chargers answered back almost immediately after grabbing the ensuing draw control. The Chargers secured 13-of-22 draw controls to stay in the game, but the Eastern defense forced seven turnovers and Marcie Spencer made four of her ten saves in the first half and the Eagles held a 14-7 lead at the break. Mackenzie Dix and Moriah Bourk each scored in the first half.

The Chargers scored twice in the first minute of the second half and added another to close the lead to 14-10, but Brennan and Haggen scored a pair of goals three minutes apart to give the Eagles a more comfortable six-goal lead. Lancaster Bible trimmed the lead back to 16-12 with two goals in a minute around the midpoint of the half, but Eastern answered with four straight to lead 20-12 with 7:40 to play.

Liz Brennan scored her six goals on eight shots. The junior midfielder also added three assists. Haggen added a pair of ground balls and four draw controls to her six-goal effort. Charlebois caused a pair of LBC turnovers, scooped up four ground balls, and finished with six draw controls.

Alyssa Wesner finished with a game-high seven goals and nine draw controls to pace the Chargers.

Eastern (1-2) will play at Haverford College next Wednesday.
